Prime Minister Stephen Harper will tour the three northern territories this month to reinforce Canada's sovereignty claim to the Arctic, CBC News reports.
Harper's five-day tour of Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon starts Aug. 17.
A helicopter will drop off the prime minister on the deck of HMCS Toronto as the frigate takes part in a month-long exercise off Baffin Island.
Harper and his cabinet will also hold a meeting in Iqaluit.
Since becoming prime minister in early 2006, Harper has made an annual pilgrimage to the far North. But this one is his most extensive yet.
His visit comes as the US, Russia, Sweden, Finland and Norway have all beefed up their military strength in the region.
Canada's PM will visit northern territories
It's not Stephen Harper's first trip---that's the point.
