One of Greenland's two members to the Danish parliament wants Greenland to set aside 200,000 kroner a year to buy Greenlandic food for Greenlanders staying at hospitals in Denmark, reports Sermitsiaq.
MP Doris Jakobsen made her plea after visiting a hospital and out-patient hotel in Copenhagen, and found that Greenlandic patients in Denmark receive their native food less than once a week.
"I was impressed by the conditions for patients in all other areas. But their situation could be improved a lot if they could eat food they were used to more often," Jacobsen said.
Greenlandic food is readily available in Copenhagen, and Jacobsen said ensuring patients' quality of life while receiving treatment in Denmark "was only a matter of financial will."
"Setting aside the money would mean a lot more for them than it would mean other places in the budget. We need to find it right now," Jacobsen said.
Greenlandic patients in Denmark need more country food
Greenland should help pay for more familiar foods, MP says.
