Greenland’s first domestically produced feature film will be shown at the Sundance film festival.

After opening to rave domestic reviews, Nuummioq has now been selected to compete in the Sundance Film Festival, Sermitsiaq reports.

“It’s every director’s dream to compete at Sundance,” director Otto Rosing said. “I was speechless when I found out.”

Nuummioq was one of 14 films selected from a field of 1,000 to compete in the festival’s World Cinema Narrative competition.

The film tells the story of main character Malik, who days after meeting the love of his life is diagnosed with terminal cancer.

He is left with the choice: remain in Nuuk and die within months, or move to Copenhagen were he can receive treatment that will extend his life by a couple of years.

Sundance is America’s largest film festival for independent productions. The 2010 edition of the 10-day event opens on Jan. 21.
