Large snowdrifts aided a male wolverine in its escape from Helsinki’s Korkeasaari Zoo on Monday morning.

Patrols were searching for the escaped creature, which was said to be of no threat to humans.

The chocolate brown animal weighed around 20 kilos and stands at approximately 40 centimetres tall.

The wolverine was already an elderly beast at 13 years of age.

Korkeasaari closed its doors as long as the search continued.

A wolverine was finally been safely recovered some six kilometres south of the facility.
