The Danish and Canadian naval forces are conducting a joint exercise in the Northwest sea passage, Sermitsiaq reports.
The northern exercise involves the Danish inspection ships "Hvidbjørnen" (the White Bear) and "Ejnar Mikkelsen" and the Canadian ice-breaker the "Henry Larsen."
On Tuesday, the three ships entered Lancaster Sound, which is the entry to the Northwest passage, and on Wednesday, the ships arrived in the Resolute Bay in Nunavut.
Greenland Command Chief Rear Admiral Henrik B. Kudsk said the naval traffic between Greenland and Canada was likely to intensify in the summer months in the coming years, something which would require the neighbouring countries to cooperate.
