Weekly radio broadcasts in Kildin Saami language are being aired on a trial basis for radio listeners in the Murmansk Oblast.

It's the first time that the Saami radio will broadcast to the entire Mumansk region.

An estimated 200 people speak Kildin Saami on the Kola peninsula.

The 15-minute long programs will discuss subjects important for the Saami population in the Murmansk region, such as language-related issues and questions regarding reindeer management, according to NRK.

The programs will be broadcast for a three-month trial period.
